| Because Canaan Dogs are rare you may find that there are no breeders in your area or the nearest breeder won't have puppies until next year. This is why many buyers end up having their new puppy shipped via the airlines. I usually ship either American, Continental or Alaska Airlines. I've bought 3 of my four Canaan Dop Puppies from far away breeders. Astra and Roxy flew from England, a 15 hour flight. Misty flew in from Chicago to Sacramento when I lived in Tahoe. I flew one puppy to Houston, one to Boston for my August 2003 litter, and one to Seattle for my June 2004 litter. I have always had good luck flying puppies, but some buyers are concerned and prefer to drive 10+ hours to come get their puppy. I prefer direct flights though the Boston flight had one plane change and it went well. Airlines may refuse to ship a pet if any of the airports on the itinerary have predicted temperature below 50 F or above 85F. Vets may write health certificates clearing shipping from 30 to 90 F. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Costs: The Airlines require payment when the puppy is dropped off at the airport. So I will call the airline for their costs and I will ask you to include the fee in you final check before I ship the puppy. Airlines require the pup be at least 8 weeks and have a Vet certificate signed within 10 days of shipment. I add $25 to the shipping costs for the vet cert. Crate: Airlines require a Airline Approved plastic crate. I will purchase a small crate and add it to your bill. Cost is usually $20-25, depending on what deals I can find. Airports: I fly puppies out of Ontario International Airport (ONT). If flyng to the east coast there is usually a plane change in Dallas for American and Houston via Continental. Cost is the same no mater which airport, even if they change planes. The airlines will not fly dogs to some of the smaller airports so you would need to call the airline to check. |
